With the ongoing concerns tackli ng whether humanitarian efforts really help unforesightful societies build a better future or just further hinder their ability to support themselves without the assistance of anyone is now on the spotlight as this book emphasizes the need to draw a line between helping them and feeding on their dependence on the government or NGOs. Of course, this is another grimace that has two sides of the story. We cannot deny the reality of poor communities who really need the support from humanitarian organizations to give them the tools to gain an equal chance of at least survival. However, it is in addition crucial to clearly set guidelines to avoid humanitarian efforts to be a weapon that would destroy a communitys drive to better themselves. As it is said, it is better to teach someone how to fish rather than just feeding him fish.
